    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Bell UH-1 Iroquois, known in professional jargon as the 'Huey', is an American-made multi-purpose helicopter and the first member of the extensive Huey family. The machine was developed in the early 1950s at the request of the US Army, which was looking for a new helicopter for medical evacuation and general transport tasks. The first prototype, the Bell 204, flew in October 1956 and was particularly impressive due to its turbine-powered engine, which was clearly superior to older piston engines. The Huey was the first turbine-powered helicopter to enter service with the US military and was used by both the US Army and the Marine Corps.
