    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    In the Late Bronze Age, the light chariot became the dominant weapon on Middle Eastern battlefields. The so-called Maryannu warriors - a warrior caste in the service of Mitanni, Assyria, Kassite Babylonia, the Syro-Canaanite city-states, and the Elamites - fought in armored chariots, whose horses were sometimes also protected by bronze scale armor. The 6-spoke wheels and the reinforced sides with bow quivers and arrow bags characterize this more advanced type of Late Bronze Age chariot technology. Uniformity in equipment and clothing across different nations makes this model versatile for use in various armies.
