Zwischen 1455 und 1487 rangen die Häuser Lancaster und York um den englischen Thron, ein Streit innerhalb derselben Familie, ausgetragen von Adelsgefolgschaften, die je nach Lage die Seiten wechselten. Towton 1461 gilt als verlustreichste Schlacht auf englischem Boden. Bei Bosworth 1485 fiel Richard III. als letzter Plantagenet-König, mit Heinrich Tudor begann eine neue Dynastie. Die Heere dieser Zeit stützten sich auf Langbogenschützen, Billmen und gepanzerte Men-at-Arms.
