Background & context

Between the fall of Constantinople and the relief of Vienna in 1683 lay the period in which the Ottoman Empire shifted the borders of Europe. Hungary broke apart at Mohács in 1526, Malta withstood a siege in 1565 that was thought hopeless, and Venice lost Cyprus and fought for Crete for a quarter of a century. At the Kahlenberg the tide turned for good when the Polish winged hussars rode down the slope. The volume covers this span, along with everything that went on between Habsburg, Venice, Poland and the Sublime Porte.

On the tabletop

The Highest Throne covers the wars between the Ottoman Empire and its European opponents in the 16th and 17th centuries for Pike & Shotte. Rules for famous battles such as the Siege of Malta, Mohács and the attack on Vienna in 1683 sit alongside lesser-known conflicts, from Venice's struggle for Crete and Cyprus to Portuguese adventurers in Ethiopia. Army lists, characters such as Suleiman the Magnificent and collecting advice help you build your force, with Kara Mustafa Pasha leading your Ottoman army.
