Background & context

1769 lief sie in Havanna vom Stapel, damals mit 112 Kanonen. Zwei Umbauten später trug sie ab 1802 ganze 140 Stück auf vier Decks - kein Segelkriegsschiff war je schwerer bewaffnet. Bezahlt wurde das mit miserablen Segeleigenschaften, über die schon Zeitgenossen spotteten. Bei Trafalgar wurde ihr das zum Verhängnis: im schwachen Wind kaum manövrierfähig, ergab sie sich nach stundenlangem Beschuss und ging vor Cádiz verloren.

On the tabletop

From 1802 the Santísima Trinidad carried 140 guns on four decks, more than any other ship in the age of sail. In Black Seas she is the heavy flagship of your Spanish fleet, whose broadsides hit anything that comes close. Her weight made her a poor sailer, however, barely manoeuvrable in the light winds at Trafalgar, so she needs escorts to drive the enemy towards her. Scenarios such as Cape St Vincent in 1797 or Trafalgar are an obvious choice.
