    Product details

    Background & context

David Lee 'Tex' Hill was a member of the legendary 1st American Volunteer Group, popularly known as the 'Flying Tigers' - a unit of US volunteers who fought against Japanese air forces on China's side before the official US entry into the war. Hill flew the P-40 Warhawk over Southeast Asia and achieved the five kills required for an ace within a few weeks, before extending that mark to over twelve aerial victories. After the volunteer group was disbanded, he continued his service in regular US units and later also flew early jet aircraft. His career spanned from the Pacific War through Korea into the post-war era - one of the most unusual careers of American military aviators of the 20th century.

    On the tabletop

'Tex' Hill flew the P-40 Warhawk with the 1st American Volunteer Group, the Flying Tigers, over Burma, Thailand and China, and became an ace in January 1942. In Blood Red Skies his P-40, with an advantage base and its own cards, leads an American squadron against Japanese fighters. By the time the Flying Tigers disbanded in the summer of 1942 he had more than twelve victories, and he later commanded the first American jet fighter group.
