Background & context

Flames of War came out of New Zealand in 2002 and remains to this day the best-known tabletop game for company-level actions in the Second World War. It is traditionally played in 15mm, so that whole tank companies and infantry battalions fit on a normal table. The fourth edition appeared in 2017 and tidied up the rules considerably. Since then the war years have been divided into Early, Mid and Late War, each period with its own sourcebooks and card sets.

On the tabletop

The fourth edition rulebook is the foundation for games of Flames of War. It covers company-level battles in the Second World War, usually in 15 mm scale. Quick-start rules ease you into your first games, followed by the complete rules from moving and shooting to artillery fire and assaults. Special rules for the individual nations and a number of missions complete the book, which is written in English.
