Background & context

The P-40 was never the fastest aircraft in the sky, but it was there: built from 1938, cheap to produce and found in almost every Allied air force. Over North Africa, the South West Pacific and China it carried the main burden, while the Bf 109 and Fw 190 held sway at high altitude. Lower down it served equally well as interceptor, escort and fighter-bomber. The shark mouth on the nose made an RAF squadron in North Africa famous.

On the tabletop

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk flew with most of the Allies, above all over North Africa, the South West Pacific and China, and with Britain and the Commonwealth also as the Tomahawk or Kittyhawk. At high altitude it was outclassed by the Bf 109 and Fw 190, but at low level it excelled as a fighter, escort and fighter-bomber. In Blood Red Skies you therefore keep your six aircraft low and seek the fight where they are strong. With 13,738 built, it was the third most produced US fighter of the war.
