Background & context

On 16 December 1944 the German attack struck a front that was regarded as a quiet sector, thinly held by exhausted divisions and by newly arrived ones. In Bastogne the 101st Airborne sat surrounded until Patton's tanks wheeled north and broke the ring on 26 December. What followed was a winter battle for crossroads, woodland edges and fuel, in which the weather often decided more than armour did.

On the tabletop

This book lets you field American forces in Flames of War from the liberation of France through the Battle of the Bulge to the fighting in Germany. The choices include Sherman and M24 Chaffee companies, battle-weary riflemen and armoured infantry, parachute and glider infantry from Bastogne, and M18 and M36 tank destroyers. Three missions set in the Bulge and rules for fog and winter weather capture the winter of 1944/45.
