    Product details

    Background & context

The Bell P-39 Airacobra was one of the most widely used American fighter aircraft in the early war years and was widely distributed among numerous allies through the Lend-Lease program. The aircraft earned an outstanding reputation, particularly in the Soviet Union: Soviet pilots achieved more kills with this type than any other air force with an American model in any conflict. The Airacobra was at its best in low-level flight and at medium altitudes, while it was less in demand for high-altitude combat over Western Europe. Besides the Soviet Union, the Free French and the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force, among others, used the type in the Mediterranean and Pacific theaters.

    On the tabletop

The six P-39s form a complete squadron in Blood Red Skies, with flying bases, game tokens and aircraft and trait cards. The tilting bases show whether an aircraft is advantaged, neutral or disadvantaged. The Airacobra suits games on the Eastern Front, in the Mediterranean and in the South West Pacific, where most air combat took place at low altitude. It was flown by American and Soviet squadrons, and its opponents are German or Japanese fighters.
