    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The P-38 Lightning was one of the most distinctive American fighter aircraft of World War II - recognizable by its unusual twin-boom, twin-engine design. Its relatively long range made it particularly valuable for escort duties on long-range missions and for low-level attacks on ground targets. In the Pacific, the type was deployed in large numbers and became the mainstay of the American fighter arm in this theater of war. Although agile Japanese fighters could outperform it at low speeds, American pilots used the aircraft's strengths - rate of climb and top speed - to maintain the initiative in high-speed combat.

The squadron is suitable for long-range fighter combat, bomber escort, and flexible attacks; its strengths should be purposefully played out in scenarios across Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific.
