    Product details

    Background & context

The Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa was one of the most powerful land-based fighter aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force when Japan entered World War II. With just under 6,000 units built, it was numerically the most significant Japanese fighter aircraft of the entire war. In the early phase of the war, the aircraft achieved clear superiority over enemy formations, but came under pressure from increasingly modernized Allied types. The Series II responded with a more powerful engine, self-sealing fuel tanks, pilot armor, and heavy machine gun armament. Similar to the Navy's A6M Zero, the Oscar remained in active service until the end of the war, long after it was technically obsolete.

    On the tabletop

With 5900 built, the Ki-43 Hayabusa was numerically Japan's most important fighter. The second production series received a two-stage supercharger, self-sealing tanks, pilot armour and heavy 12.7 mm machine guns. In Blood Red Skies your six aircraft come with the No Stalling and Deep Pockets traits and the Bait and Switch doctrine, and you use them to drag opponents into tight turns. Bases, tokens and decals are included.
