    Product details

    Background & context

The Mitsubishi A6M Zero is considered the most famous Japanese fighter aircraft of World War II and was superior to many Allied models at the beginning of the war. As the first carrier-based fighter aircraft of its era that could compete with land-based machines, it was a milestone in aviation history. Japanese pilots internally called it Reisen, while on the Allied side it became known under various designations. Its enormous range and high maneuverability made it a formidable opponent over the Pacific, as long as experienced crews were in the cockpits. However, with the technological advancements of the Allies, the model increasingly lost its competitiveness.

    On the tabletop

Fast, agile and with enormous range, the A6M2 Zero was a dangerous opponent in the first months of the Pacific War, as long as well-trained pilots flew it. It had no armour for the pilot. In Blood Red Skies the squadron comes with the Seasoned Pilots doctrine and the No Stalling and Deep Pockets traits. Against early opponents such as the Wildcat you seek the turning fight, while later the Zero is overtaken by stronger Allied designs.
