    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Kawanishi N1K2-J was one of the most powerful land-based fighter aircraft used by the Japanese Navy Air Force in World War II. Developed from a seaplane design, it impressed with its high speed, good maneuverability, and heavy armament of four 20mm cannons. The revised Kai variant significantly rectified design weaknesses of its predecessor. Due to limited production capacities, the total number produced remained low, which is why the aircraft were preferably assigned to experienced elite units of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
