Background & context

The Kawanishi N1K2-J was one of the most powerful land-based fighter aircraft used by the Japanese Navy Air Force in World War II. Developed from a seaplane design, it impressed with its high speed, good maneuverability, and heavy armament of four 20mm cannons. The revised Kai variant significantly rectified design weaknesses of its predecessor. Due to limited production capacities, the total number produced remained low, which is why the aircraft were preferably assigned to experienced elite units of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

On the tabletop

The Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden-Kai was one of the best land-based fighters of the Japanese navy and could hold its own against the Hellcat, Corsair and Mustang. Four 20 mm cannon and good agility make your six aircraft a late-war opponent for American squadrons in Blood Red Skies, with Tight Turn and Heavy Hitter traits and an Aggressive Tactics doctrine card. A Poor Quality negative card reflects manufacturing flaws. It served with elite units such as the 343rd Kokutai.
