    Product details

    Background & context

Kaneyoshi Muto was one of the most remarkable fighter pilots in the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. He saw his first aerial combat during the war against China, before being deployed to numerous theaters of war in the Pacific War - from the Philippines and the Solomon Islands to New Guinea. Veteran naval aviator Saburo Sakai described him as the toughest fighter pilot in the Imperial Navy. In the final phase of the war, Muto flew missions in the powerful Shiden-kai to defend the Japanese mainland against American bomber formations. He is considered one of the most successful Japanese fighter pilots of World War II, with a double-digit number of kills, including several heavy bombers.

    On the tabletop

Kaneyoshi Muto fought over China from 1937, later over the Philippines, the Solomons, the Java Sea and New Guinea, and from December 1944 he defended the Japanese home islands against the B-29s. In Blood Red Skies he flies his N1K2 Shiden-kai George as the ace of your late-war naval squadron, for example leading a Shiden-Kai squadron. His tally of 28 to 35 victories includes four B-29s. Game aids and cards are included.
