    Product details

    Background & context

At the outset of the Pacific War, the F4F Wildcat was the only operational fighter aircraft for US Navy and Marine Corps units. Although the Japanese Zero was superior in maneuverability and climb rate, the Wildcat excelled with a significantly more robust construction and heavier armament. American pilots developed specific tactics that strategically leveraged these strengths and exploited the enemy's weaknesses. Despite the emergence of more powerful successor models, the Wildcat remained in service until the end of the war-a testament to its fundamentally sound design.

    On the tabletop

At the start of the Pacific War the F4F Wildcat was the only effective fighter the US Navy and Marine Corps had. The lighter Zero out-turned and out-climbed it, but the Wildcat was tougher and better armed, which is why this Blood Red Skies squadron brings the Slashing Attack doctrine and six Robust trait cards. Rather than seeking a turning fight, you make fast attacks and cover each other in pairs. It stayed in service through Guadalcanal and beyond.
