    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Grumman F6F Hellcat was one of the defining carrier-based aircraft of the US Navy in World War II and was deployed in large numbers starting in mid-1943. Its combination of robustness, armament, and solid flight performance made it the preferred fighter aircraft for American carrier pilots in the Pacific. Measured by the documented aerial victories of the US Navy, the vast majority of all kills were attributed to this type. Some of the manufactured aircraft were also supplied to the British Fleet Air Arm, where the Hellcat served under its own name.

    In the game, the F6F Hellcat Squadron represents a complete Blood Red Skies squadron. The squadron is suitable for carrier-based US fighter air combat with a strong Pacific focus; its strengths should be deliberately used in scenarios around the Pacific War against Japanese air forces. For the US, it provides a thematically clear choice that can be used directly with the appropriate cards, bases, and markers.
