    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The US Navy relied on two completely different carrier-borne aircraft during the Pacific War: the SBD Dauntless as a dive bomber and the older TBD Devastator as a torpedo bomber. While the Dauntless had only entered service in 1940 and proved to be decisive for the war, the Devastator was already an outdated model at the time of America's entry into the war. Its brief chapter ended with heavy losses and almost no impact before it was replaced by more modern aircraft. The Dauntless, however, shaped US Navy air warfare into the middle phase of the war and is considered one of the most significant carrier aircraft of World War II.

    In the game, the Douglas Dauntless & Devastator Squadron represents a complete Blood Red Skies squadron. The squadron is suitable for air combat with dive and torpedo bombers for carrier attacks; its strengths should be purposefully exploited in scenarios set around the early Pacific War. For the USA, it provides a thematically clear selection that can be used directly with the appropriate cards, bases, and markers.
