    Product details

    Background & context

In January 1879 British columns marched into Zululand and lost an entire camp at Isandlwana within hours. The impis fought in the formation of the buffalo horns: the chest pins the enemy from the front, the two horns envelop him from the sides. The matter was decided with the iklwa, the short stabbing spear that Shaka had brought in decades earlier. There were rifles, mostly old and badly maintained.

    On the tabletop

These 38 Zulu warriors let you field an impi for the war of 1879. Up to ten men carry firearms, while the rest fight with stabbing spear, throwing spear or knobkerrie and seek close combat. Several units deploy in the buffalo horns formation: the chest pins the enemy from the front while the horns envelop him from the sides. The four fallen work as casualty markers, and British infantry as at Isandlwana makes the opponent.
