Background & context

After Pearl Harbor, aircraft carriers and naval aircraft became the most important tools of the US Navy in the Pacific. The TBF/TBM Avenger was a robust torpedo bomber that replaced older models. The F4F Wildcat was a tough carrier-based fighter aircraft in the early years of the war. The PBY Catalina performed patrol, transport, and anti-submarine warfare missions over vast sea areas.

On the tabletop

Nine flights for your American fleet in Victory at Sea: four Avengers as torpedo bombers, four Wildcats as fighters and a PBY-5 Catalina that escorts convoys and hunts submarines. From Midway onwards aircraft decided the naval war in the Pacific, and this is the mix your carriers launch. The Avenger has a crew of three and can defend itself better than its predecessor, the Wildcat takes a lot of punishment, and the Catalina carries bombs or a torpedo.
