    Product details

    Background & context

The Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm showed during World War II how vulnerable ships could be to air attacks. The Short Sunderland was an important flying boat for patrols and anti-submarine warfare. Sea-Hurricane and Fulmar types covered British fighter and carrier roles, although they were supplemented or replaced by more modern aircraft during the course of the war. This set brings the air component of British naval warfare to the tabletop.

    On the tabletop

These nine flights give your Royal Navy in Victory at Sea an air component: a Short Sunderland patrols the convoy routes and attacks U-boats before they can dive, while four Hurricanes and four Fairey Fulmars fly as fighters and fighter-bombers. The Fulmar had the firepower of a Spitfire and long range, well suited to carrier operations. From the attack on Taranto onwards, the Fleet Air Arm showed how vulnerable ships are to attack from the air.
