Background & context

Protecting civilian trade routes was one of the crucial tasks of the Allied naval forces in World War II. Great Britain's supply of food, raw materials, and war goods depended almost entirely on the safe passage of Atlantic convoys. In the Pacific, the systematic disruption of Japanese supply lines put Japan's war economy in an increasingly precarious position. Freighters such as the mass-produced Liberty and Victory types formed the logistical backbone of the Allied war effort - without them, supplies to the front lines simply could not have been maintained.

On the tabletop

With three Liberty freighters, three Victory freighters and the tanker SS Ohio, every game of Victory at Sea gets a clear objective. One side protects the convoy with escorts until heavy support arrives or the merchants escape, while the other attacks with submarines, cruisers or aircraft. With the Ohio you refight Operation Pedestal in August 1942, when the tanker brought fuel through to Malta. Ship cards and damage sliders for all seven ships are included.
