    Background & context

The German Navy was rebuilt under severe restrictions after World War I. At the beginning of the war, Germany had only a few large surface ships, but it used them specifically as commerce raiders and as a threat to Allied convoys. Heavy cruisers, fast battleships, and destroyers were not intended to replace a British battle fleet, but rather to exert pinpoint pressure on supply lines. This box represents this mix of capital ships, cruisers, destroyers, and air support.

    On the tabletop

The box is a complete German fleet for Victory at Sea: the battleship Scharnhorst, the heavy cruisers Admiral Hipper, Blücher and Prinz Eugen, the light cruisers Königsberg and Köln and three Type 1936A destroyers, plus four Stuka flights. The Kriegsmarine was not built for an open battle against the Royal Navy but for commerce raiding, and that is how you use it: attack convoys, tie down enemy forces and strike into the Atlantic and the Arctic. The destroyers accompany the heavy units while the Stukas attack from the air. Ship cards and damage sliders are included.
