    Background & context

    Germany did not have any operational aircraft carriers during World War II, which is why naval aviators and the Luftwaffe usually operated from land bases. The FW 200 Condor was used for maritime reconnaissance and attacks on shipping. The Ju 88 was a versatile aircraft that could also be used against ships with bombs or torpedoes. Bf 109 fighters complement the set as interceptors and escorts for German operations.

    On the tabletop

    With no carriers of its own, the Luftwaffe flew its maritime strikes from land airfields, mainly against ships close to the European coast. These nine flights give your Kriegsmarine in Victory at Sea exactly that: a Condor as maritime patrol aircraft and long-range bomber to find convoys, four Ju 88s carrying bombs or torpedoes, and four Bf 109s as fighters. So you can find convoys, attack them and protect your bombers from British fighters.
