    Background & context

    The Imperial Japanese Navy evolved into a modern high-seas fleet with a strong carrier arm before World War II. Japan recognized early on the importance of air power at sea and deployed this capability at Pearl Harbor, in the Indian Ocean, and at Midway. At the same time, the fleet possessed powerful battleships, cruisers, and aggressive destroyer formations. The fleet box reflects this combination of carrier aircraft and heavy surface units.

    On the tabletop

    This box gives you a Japanese fleet for Victory at Sea: the battleship Kongō, the carrier Zuikaku with four flights of Zero fighters, the cruisers Suzuya, Mikuma and Yahagi and three Kagero-class destroyers. Japan recognised the value of naval air power early and built a strong carrier force, backed by battleships and destroyers drilled for night fighting with long-range torpedoes. With it you play the battles from Pearl Harbor via Midway to the end of the war. Each ship comes with its card and damage slider.
