Background & context

Die 82nd und die 101st Airborne sprangen in der Nacht zum 6. Juni 1944 über der Normandie ab, weit verstreut und häufig ohne ihre Ausrüstungsbündel. Im September folgte Market Garden, im Dezember hielt die 101st Bastogne. Fallschirmjägerzüge kämpften in den ersten Tagen meist zusammengewürfelt, weshalb gemischte Posen und abweichende Ausrüstung bei diesen Truppen kein Bemalfehler sind, sondern die Regel.

On the tabletop

This frame from the US Airborne set holds six bodies plus heads, arms, weapons and equipment in abundance. It brings airborne squads in Bolt Action up to strength and adds officers and spotters. After their scattered drop over Normandy, the 82nd and 101st Airborne often fought in mixed groups, and later at Market Garden and Bastogne too. Varied poses and kit within one squad are therefore entirely fitting.
