Background & context

From 1940 small boats clashed on many nights in the English Channel and off the North Sea coast. German E-boats attacked British coastal convoys, while Royal Navy Motor Torpedo Boats hunted them and German shipping off the occupied coast. The E-boats were larger and ran on diesel engines, whereas the British Vosper boats used petrol, which caught fire easily when hit. Actions were fought at short range and often lasted only a few minutes before the boats disappeared back into the darkness.

On the tabletop

The box holds two complete flotillas: six Royal Navy Vosper MTBs against four Kriegsmarine E-boats, all in 1:300 scale. Lay out islands and sandbars from the punchboards on the double-sided battle mat and you have a stretch of coastal water to fight over. The quick start guide takes you through your first turns, then the rulebook takes over with the full rules. Torpedo and plume markers show where torpedoes are running and shells are landing, while wake markers show how fast each boat is moving. The merchant ship data card lets you attack a convoy later on, once you add a suitable model.
