Product details

Background & context

In the Crimean War, the Ottoman Empire fought alongside Great Britain and France against Russia. Ottoman troops defended important fortresses and supply lines and formed a central part of the Allied war effort. The army was in a phase of reform, but remained regionally very diversely organized and equipped.

On the tabletop

This metal set provides a gun with four gunners for the Ottoman Empire in the Crimean War. Ottoman artillery was a mix of older smoothbore pieces and a few more modern guns, which put it at a disadvantage in open battle. Behind ramparts and in fortresses it was a different matter, as the defence of Kars in 1855 showed. In Black Powder you therefore place the gun well covered in an earthwork or at a defile and let the enemy come to you.
