    Product details

    Background & context

The M10 appeared in 1942 from the US Army idea of fighting enemy tanks with mobile, lightly armoured tank destroyers that strike on the move and disengage at once. A flat, open-topped turret with a 3-inch gun sat on the Sherman chassis. It saw action in Tunisia, Italy and Normandy, often as tank support rather than as an ambush weapon. Against the Panther and Tiger its gun was only adequate at short range, which is why the M36 with a 90 mm gun followed later.

    On the tabletop

The M10 belongs in every American list that wants to stand up to heavy German tanks. Its gun is made for anti-tank work, and it is mobile enough to cover the Shermans and secure flanks. The open turret gives a clear view but leaves the crew defenceless against aircraft and artillery fire.
