    Background & context

    The PTRD-41 (single-shot) and PTRS-41 (self-loading) anti-tank rifles reached the Red Army in 1941, when the infantry urgently needed a means against German tanks. Their 14.5 mm round penetrated the armour of light tanks, armoured cars and half-tracks. As German armour grew stronger their value fell, and they were still used against tracks, vision slits, trucks and machine gun nests.

    On the tabletop

    The anti-tank rifle teams give the Red Army a cheap, easily redeployed anti-armour weapon. Their 14.5 mm rounds carry further than the riflemen's close combat, and the teams cost only a few points but carry no armour protection. If a battle calls for more effect against infantry than against tanks, you build the squads as heavy machine guns with simple changes.
