    Product details

    Background & context

The Deutsches Afrikakorps was formed in spring 1941 to support the Italian forces in Libya. Its infantry was motorised on trucks and light vehicles so that it could keep up with the tanks across the vast spaces of North Africa. The Volkswagen-based Kübelwagen was light, good off the road and, with its air-cooled engine, well suited to desert sand. The struggle for supplies and water decided matters there as much as the tank battles.

    On the tabletop

Three Kübelwagen carry a unit of Afrikakorps infantry with a heavy MG and a Panzerschreck across the open desert. Once dismounted, the unit holds ridges, tracks or a position and needs the backing of guns or tanks to do so. Thanks to its mobility it works as a reserve that closes gaps in the line, or as a flanking force that is quickly where it is needed.
