    Product details

    Background & context

The Universal Carrier developed in the 1930s from small machine-gun carriers and became the most produced British tracked vehicle. More than 100,000 were built, also in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It served as a carrier for machine guns and mortars, as a command and supply vehicle and as a tractor for light guns, in North Africa as well as in north-western Europe. It owes the name Bren Carrier to the light machine gun that many crews carried.

    On the tabletop

The carrier is small, fast and open-topped. You use it to get a squad into position quickly or to haul an anti-tank gun and light guns across the table. As part of a motorised infantry unit it reaches places where foot troops would be too slow. It protects its crew hardly at all against more than light fire, so it does not belong in the front line.
