    Product details

    Background & context

British infantry in the Second World War remained essentially a force on foot, and vehicles gave it the mobility it needed. The Universal Carrier grew out of the pre-war Bren Carrier designs and was built in huge numbers from 1940, including in Canada and Australia. The open, lightly armoured tracked vehicle served as a weapon carrier, scout, supply vehicle and tow for light guns. The PIAT reached the troops in 1943 as a spring-driven projector with a hollow-charge bomb, with little backblast but a short range.

    On the tabletop

The platoon consists of four squads of four models each and a command squad of two models. Universal Carriers bring the infantry into position or tow light guns along. The three heavy MG bases keep a patch of ground under fire at six shots each, mainly against infantry and lightly armoured targets. The three PIAT bases only work at short range, but against tanks. The platoon is built for mobility and a short route to anti-tank fire.
