    Product details

    Background & context

British motorised artillery in the desert relied on trucks such as the three-ton Bedford QL, which carried crews, ammunition and sometimes the gun itself. They let batteries get into position quickly, deliver accurate fire and move again. The Desert Rats, as the 7th Armoured Division was known after the jerboa in its badge, were among the best-known formations in the region. The artillery fire of the Eighth Army at El Alamein in 1942 began the turn in North Africa.

    On the tabletop

The Bedford trucks bring the three 25-pounders into position, and after the first salvoes it is on to a new position. The guns act at a distance against positions and troops and can fire on tanks if they have to. On the move they need the protection of infantry or tanks, because without an escort trucks and guns are easy prey.
