Background & context

The war in North Africa was fought from 1940 to 1943 with tanks in open country. Italian vehicles such as the M14/41 medium tank and the Semovente 75/18 assault gun had to face British armour, including the American Grant, which appeared from spring 1942 with a 7.5 cm gun in its hull. The Solothurn was a heavy 20 mm anti-tank rifle that quickly reached its limits against the armour of that period.

On the tabletop

The Italian army consists of three M14/41, two Semovente 75/18, two infantry units, two Solothurn anti-tank rifles and two heavy machine guns. The British side answers with three Grant, two infantry units, two PIAT bases and two MG bases. The desert trenches give a unit cover on the table. The tanks decide the fight, while anti-tank rifles and PIATs protect the infantry from them.
