Product details

Background & context

In the Pacific War the US Marine Corps bore the brunt of the amphibious landings: Guadalcanal 1942, Tarawa 1943, Saipan, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. For this the Marines developed a landing doctrine of their own, with assault boats, amtracs and flamethrowers against dug-in Japanese positions. The nickname Leathernecks comes from the stiff leather collar of earlier uniforms. By 1945 the Marines had grown from two to six divisions.

On the tabletop

Bazookas, flamethrowers and an inflatable boat for storming the beach: the 45 unpainted Marines in 1:76 are equipped for Pacific landings. Flamethrower teams cleared bunkers, while bazookas dealt with fortifications and vehicles. From Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima you can build scenes on palm-lined beaches and at the edge of the jungle. On the gaming table you set them against Japanese defenders in the same scale.
