Product details

Background & context

During the night before 6 June 1944, around 13,000 men of the 82nd and 101st Airborne jumped over the Cotentin peninsula, widely scattered, many into flooded meadows. Even so, they blocked the approaches to the beaches and took Sainte-Mère-Église as one of the first places in France to be liberated. The paratroopers wore the M42 jump jacket with patch pockets and the jump boots that every infantryman envied them. After Holland and the Ardennes, the airborne divisions were regarded as the US Army's fire brigade.

On the tabletop

In the early hours of the Normandy landings the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions jumped behind the beaches, often far from their drop zones. The 14 figures in 1:32 come from the 1975 mould and show these paratroopers with their gear and stances. In a diorama they can gather at a hedgerow or hold a causeway across flooded land. Which division you depict is decided when you paint the shoulder patches.
