    Product details

    Background & context

15 cwt stands for 15 hundredweight, in other words a payload of around 760 kilos, the lightest class of lorry in the British armed forces. From 1939 Bedford supplied the MW in that class, and about 66,000 were built by the end of the war. The early vehicles had no doors and only a fold-down windscreen, which in winter earned them the nickname pneumonia wagon among drivers. Doors, side windows and a canvas tilt were added later. With the RAF it carried ground personnel, tools and supplies between hangar and runway.

    On the tabletop

In 1:48 you build the Bedford MWD either as an early Army version from 1940 with a fold-down windscreen or as a late RAF truck from 1943 with a revised cab. The 95 parts make up a light lorry that ferried ground crew and equipment across the airfields. In a diorama you can park it beside a Spitfire or Hurricane of the same scale, with mechanics and tool boxes on the load bed.
