Product details

Background & context

In 1940 Churchill demanded a parachute force of 5,000 men, and out of nothing the 1st Airborne Division came into being within two years. Its road led via North Africa and Sicily to Arnhem, where in September 1944 it held the bridge and the bridgehead at Oosterbeek for nine days, until only a fifth of some 10,000 men came back. The maroon beret and the Pegasus on the sleeve became its distinguishing marks, and the nickname Red Devils comes from the enemy themselves.

On the tabletop

The maroon beret and Bellerophon riding the winged horse Pegasus on the sleeve marked out the British 1st Airborne Division. Here you get fourteen of its paratroopers in 1:32, cast in moulds from 1972. At this size you can paint beret and insignia so they stand out clearly. In a diorama they defend houses and gardens in the Oosterbeek perimeter near Arnhem, or gather on a field after the landing.
