    Background & context

The Tommy of 1944 wore the dish-shaped Mk II helmet or the new Mk III, khaki battledress and Pattern 37 webbing, and he was part of an army that had to be rebuilt after Dunkirk. The platoon lived off its Bren as a light machine gun, the Lee-Enfield No. 4 remained the fastest bolt-action rifle of the war, and the cheap Sten replaced the Thompson. From Caen via Arnhem to the Rhine crossing, the infantry divisions of 21st Army Group carried the fight into Germany until the spring of 1945.

    On the tabletop

These fourteen British infantrymen in 1:32 come from moulds made in 1980, with box art by William Stallion. With the Lee-Enfield, Sten and Bren they carry the typical weapons of a British platoon in the Second World War. At this large scale you have plenty of surface for battledress, webbing and steel helmet. In a diorama the group fits a Normandy hedgerow or a street corner in Holland, and in a display case it represents the advance into Germany.
