    Product details

    Background & context

The 8th Army was formed in September 1941 from the Western Desert Force and waged the desert war against the Italians and the German Afrika Korps, back and forth between Egypt and Libya, until Montgomery went over to the attack at El Alamein in October 1942. Alongside the British, Australians, New Zealanders, Indians and South Africans fought in its ranks. The nickname Desert Rats really belonged to the 7th Armoured Division, but stuck to the whole army, which brought the campaign to an end in Tunisia in 1943.

    On the tabletop

The 49 parts make 45 British infantrymen in desert kit and two Vickers machine guns on tripods, each served by two men. With them you field soldiers of the 8th Army in 1:76, which fought the Italians and the Afrika Korps in Egypt and Libya. Alongside the British, its ranks included Australians, New Zealanders and Indians. On the gaming table the machine guns give your desert infantry covering fire, and in a diorama you can dig them in behind sandbags.
