Background & context

Ein Einsatz des Bomber Command begann am Nachmittag: Auf dem Platz rollten Schlepper mit Ketten aus Bombenkarren zu den Abstellplätzen, Tankwagen pumpten je Lancaster über 2.000 Gallonen, die Waffenwarte hängten Sprengbomben und Brandbombencontainer ein. Die Besatzung kam erst zuletzt mit dem Bus. Diesen Rhythmus hielten Tausende Männer und Frauen auf den Plätzen in Lincolnshire und Yorkshire drei Jahre lang Nacht für Nacht durch. Der leichte Tilly, der Bedford MW und der David-Brown-Schlepper waren dabei so allgegenwärtig, dass kaum ein Foto eines Bomberplatzes ohne sie auskommt.

On the tabletop

With a Tilly, a Bedford MW, a David Brown tractor, a motorcycle, a maintenance tower and a fuel bowser you put together the ground crew equipment of an RAF bomber base in 1:72. Two bomb trolleys, bombs up to the 8,000-pounder, plus a ladder, fuel cans and figures complete the scene. The Bedford can be built as either an MWC or an MWD. In a diorama the ground crew prepare a Lancaster, Halifax or Wellington for the next night raid.
