    Product details

    Background & context

The Royal Navy's Landships Committee drove development forward in 1915, and Little Willie and Mother were the prototypes. The Mark I was given the rhomboid shape so that the tracks would climb over trenches; Male vehicles carried two 6-pounder naval guns in side sponsons, Female vehicles only MGs. Of the 49 tanks on 15 September 1916, fewer than half reached the German lines, yet the shock went deep, and from then on it was clear that the war had a new weapon.

    On the tabletop

At Flers-Courcelette on the Western Front in September 1916, tanks went into battle for the first time, the British Mark I among them. The Male version carried two 6-pounder naval guns in side sponsons as well as four Hotchkiss machine guns. This 1:76 kit has 49 parts from moulds made in 1967, and the rhomboid vehicle measures 102 mm when built. In a diorama you can show it crossing a trench, and on the gaming table it suits First World War figures in the same scale.
