Product details

Background & context

Between 475 and 221 BC, large armies of conscripted peasants replaced the small chariot contingents of the Chinese nobility. Infantry wore lamellar armour of lacquered leather and fought with spears, bronze swords and the ge, a polearm with a blade set crosswise. The crossbow with its bronze trigger mechanism became a widespread missile weapon in this period. In the end the state of Qin unified the country, and the Terracotta Army of its first emperor shows exactly this kind of armoured foot soldier.

On the tabletop

From the 24 figures you can build up to six crossbowmen, six spearmen, eight two-handed swordsmen, ten dagger-axe men or twelve swordsmen, mixing weapons as you need. Put the spears and dagger-axes in the front ranks and let the crossbows shoot from the second line. Add the unarmoured infantry, chariot and cavalry of the same range to complete the army of one of the seven states. Bases are not included, so plan your own.
