Background & context

Die Coastal Forces der Royal Navy waren die kleinste Waffe der Flotte und hatten den dreckigsten Job: nächtliche Gefechte gegen deutsche Geleitzüge und Schnellboote im Ärmelkanal. Die 70- bis 73-Fuß-Boote von Vosper bildeten ihr Rückgrat. Getrieben von drei amerikanischen Packard-Benzinmotoren liefen sie über 40 Knoten, trugen zwei bis vier Torpedorohre und wurden im Laufe des Krieges mit immer mehr Flak nachgerüstet. Ihre Besatzungen waren jung, oft Reservisten, und kämpften auf Holzrümpfen ohne jede Panzerung.

On the tabletop

Deck-mounted torpedo tubes, an Oerlikon cannon and several machine gun positions armed the 73 ft Vosper boat, and three Packard engines pushed it beyond 40 knots. Airfix supplies it in 1:72 with 189 parts and a Royal Navy marking from 1944. The 305 mm model pairs well with the German E-boat from the same range, whether in an English Channel diorama or on a gaming table with boats in the same scale. For skill level 3 you should already have several kits behind you.
