Product details

Background & context

For every aircraft of the US Army Air Forces there were on average more than ten men on the ground: mechanics, armourers, fuel bowser drivers, radio operators, parachute packers. On the bomber bases in East Anglia they patched up bullet-riddled B-17s and B-24s overnight so that the aircraft could take off again the next morning. After every mission the ground crews waited for their aircrews to return, which is why they belong in any credible airfield scene.

On the tabletop

The 47 figures show US Army Air Forces personnel in 1:72 scale and belong next to your Second World War aircraft models. On the bomber bases in East Anglia, mechanics and armourers patched up damaged B-17s and B-24s overnight so they could take off again in the morning. You can recreate that scene as a diorama around a bomber. Equally, you can bring a fighter airfield with a Mustang or Lightning to life, with your men refuelling and arming.
