Background & context

König Cetshwayo gliederte seine Armee 1879 in Regimenter nach Altersklassen, die amabutho. Die unverheirateten Männer dienten in den jüngsten dieser Verbände, kenntlich an dunklen Schilden und sparsamem Schmuck - den Kopfring durften sie noch nicht tragen. Genau diese Regimenter liefen bei Isandlwana am schnellsten, weil ihnen die Hörner der Büffelformation zufielen: ausschwärmen, umfassen, den Gegner von hinten packen.

On the tabletop

These four unmarried Zulu warriors, with a choice of heads, weapons and shields, stand for the young regiments in Cetshwayo's forces. You can tell them by dark shields, sparse ornament and the absence of the head ring. In Black Powder they form the horns of the buffalo formation, which spread out at Isandlwana in 1879 and enveloped the enemy. The frame lets you add individual warriors to your impi.
