Background & context

The Tiger was the answer to the T-34 and KV-1. When it first went into action near Leningrad in September 1942, it promptly got stuck in the swamp, a foretaste of its weakness: 57 tonnes in weight, a gearbox at its limit, an enormous thirst for fuel. On the battlefield this was offset by an 8.8 cm gun that dealt with any Allied tank from beyond that tank's own range. Its reputation grew faster than its numbers: just 1,347 Tiger I left the factory halls, and no other tank carries so much myth per vehicle.

On the tabletop

Two very different fronts are packed into this kit: the decals show Michael Wittmann's Tiger with heavy tank battalion 101 in Normandy and a Tiger of battalion 501 in Belarus. From 84 parts you build the Tiger 1 Ausf. E in 1:72, a tank of which only 1,347 were made. Depending on the marking, the model belongs in a scene in the west or the east. On a gaming table with 1:72 figures a single Tiger is a rare, heavy unit for your German side.
