Background & context

R. J. Mitchell hat nicht nur die Spitfire gezeichnet, sondern auch dieses Flugboot, das per Katapult von Kreuzern und Schlachtschiffen der Royal Navy startete. Die Walrus spähte für die Artillerie, holte abgeschossene Piloten aus dem Kanal und landete dafür bei Wellengang, den kein anderes Flugzeug mitgemacht hätte. Viele Besatzungen der RAF und Fleet Air Arm verdankten dem plumpen Doppeldecker ihr Leben. Der Bausatz deckt eine Rettungsstaffel in Devon, das Bordflugzeug der HMS Sheffield und eine australische Maschine in Neuguinea ab.

On the tabletop

Flying from the catapults of British cruisers and battleships, the Walrus carried out reconnaissance and later pulled downed airmen out of the sea. In this 1:48 kit of 157 parts the pusher propeller sits between the two wings, along with the boat hull and a great many struts. The decals let you choose an RAF rescue squadron in Devon, the ship's aircraft of HMS Sheffield or an Australian machine from New Guinea. In a diorama you can place it on a harbour slipway.
