    Product details

    Background & context

The Mk.V was the Spitfire with which the RAF went over to the offensive across the Channel in 1941. The Merlin 45 delivered more power at altitude, and the new C wing could carry eight machine guns, four 20 mm cannon or a mix of two cannon and four machine guns. With just under 6,500 aircraft built, the Mk.V became the most numerous Spitfire version, flew over Malta, North Africa and Burma and stayed in service until the Mk.IX held the Fw 190 in check.

    On the tabletop

The universal wing of the Mk.Vc could take machine guns, cannon or a mix of both, and the new Airfix tooling shows the bulges over the cannon. With 73 parts in 1:72 the kit is designed for the easiest skill level. You can choose a donated aircraft of an RAF squadron at Ibsley in May 1943 and a Spitfire of the Australian air force in Western Australia near the end of the war. On a gaming table with 20 mm figures it serves you as a British fighter.
